As a result, it was with no small level of trepidation that this reviewer revisited it on PS5. Does it warrant a re-release on the console of choice of the discerning scalper? Well, yes and no. Upon loading HS2 on PS5 we were immediately struck by the obvious loading speed increase thanks to the much-vaunted SSD Speedway (so called by my kid due to Astro’s Playroom). We went back to the PS4 version to compare and it’s remarkable how static it was when we reviewed it previously. That’s not to mention the glitchy trophy conditions that have been added to the equation here. After a couple of early trophies, we fulfilled several conditions but no unlocks happened. Killed a fox. We got dead excited that there was a new Ranger Mode available on the main menu. Only upon selecting it, it says ‘Get “A Ranger’s Life” DLC to unlock the Ranger Mode’.Is it available to download? Nope. It looks to be a campaign mode of sorts, but other than that, we don’t know when it’ll be available.In conclusion, Hunting Simulator 2 on PS5 is much the same game as the PS4 version from last year, but oddly we found ourselves hating it a bit less. Admittedly it’s still fundamentally the same game and there’s added trophy glitches thrown in the mix, but other than the 4k uptick and SSD loading times, there’s not been any huge changes. It’s OK we guess, but hopefully a patch and the Ranger Mode DLC will be incoming soon. In fact, Hunting Simulator 2 does not offer a story, or so far, because today, March 25, 2021, a story DLC called A Rangers Life will be released. In the base game, however, there is only one free mode in which you can let your hunter’s life run free after the tutorial. You can then buy new licenses in your hunter’s house, because it is forbidden to shoot animals for which you do not have a license. Once you have obtained your desired license, you can choose one of the many rifles, shotguns or bows and go hunting on a total of six maps in Europe or Colorado. As a little helper you have a dog with you that can follow tracks and also helps with other things during the hunt. Basically, Hunting Simulator 2 is not a real shooter, because you really shoot very little. Most of the time you follow tracks, hide in the hide or look for the right animal first. However, you really learn something about the behavior of different animals and how a hunter should deal with it.The Hunting Simulator has been improved again especially for the PS5 and, in addition to support for the adaptive triggers, also offers better haptic feedback. In general, you are mostly in the first person view and have the weapon in front of you in a classic way. There is also a third person view. The adaptive triggers work like in any other shooter and offer appropriate resistance when pulling the trigger. The haptic feedback, on the other hand, is surprisingly very good. You can feel through the controller what surface you are walking on and how high the grass is, for example. Not a graphic highlight, but definitely on a very solid level. The sound was also implemented well. The frame rate is also very stable and no major bugs were noticed during testing.So to be honest, Hunting Simulator 2 doesn’t offer that much content. For some there will be nothing exciting after 30 minutes and others can invest many hours and still want to play the game. In the end it’s a question of the player, but in any case you can learn a lot about hunting through the game and of course pet the dog. To sum up: what Hunting Simulator offers is good and can entertain for many hours, but depending on the content the content is a bit thin.Note: This game will only run on consoles with the original firmware that are connected to the PSN online account and purchased the game from PSN.
